2025 Program Directors

Megan Roethle BSN, MS, CCP, LP

Megan graduated from Milwaukee School of Engineering in 2013 with a B.S. in Nursing and began her healthcare career as a nurse in the Cardiac ICU at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. She then pursued her M.S. in Cardiovascular Perfusion at MSOE and graduated in 2017. Her career as a perfusionist began in Racine and Kenosha but has now taken her to St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. She has also served as a didactic instructor in the MSOE perfusion program since 2019.

Carl Stanfield BS, MS, CCP, LP

Carl Stanfield received his B.S. in Biology at Carroll University in 2014. In 2020, Carl completed his masters in Cardiovascular Perfusion at Midwestern University, Glendale campus. He is currently a perfusionist at Columbia St. Mary's hospital in Milwaukee, WI.

When is not in the OR, Carl can usually be found at home with his wife, 1 year old daughter and 2 Basenji dogs.

Student Scholarship Essay Contest

This society is continuing its journey to serve its members, current, former, and future, by providing continuing education, promoting quality patient care, and providing a forum for communication of its constituents. As part of its mission, WPS seeks to aid current individuals pursuing perfusion as a profession by establishing an annual scholarship essay writing competition. 

All scholarships are financed by the pairing of private and corporate donations and are awarded at the Annual Education Meeting. Winning scholarships will be awarded $1000. More than one scholarship may be awarded at the discretion of the review committee. 

The scholarship recipient will be acknowledged at the 2025 WPS meeting, and we encourage them to present an essay synopsis during the meeting, held in-person at the Milwaukee School of Engineering in Milwaukee, WI.

Challenges faced by perfusionists: What are some of the biggest challenges perfusionists face in the operating room? How do they handle these challenges to ensure patient safety?

Award Nominations

LeRoy H. Ferries Award

This is the most prestigious award that the WPS can bestow on an actively employed perfusionist that is a Class A member of WPS. This award is given annually to one individual that has made a contribution to the advancement of the perfusion community in the state of Wisconsin. As a condition of this award, the winner must give an oral presentation of their choice at the annual WPS Spring Meeting. Former recipients are not eligible for this award.

William P. Young Award

This award will be given out annually to an individual that has demonstrated a long term working relationship with the perfusion community in the state of Wisconsin. As a condition of this award, the winner must give an oral presentation of their choice at the annual WPS Spring Meeting. The only stipulation is this presentation must cover some facet of cardiovascular surgery, cardiology, or perfusion.

Ronald D. Nichols Award of Merit

This award will be given to an individual that has accomplished something of a “special nature” that has benefited the WPS, perfusion in the state of Wisconsin, or the patients that are served in the state. There is no formula or limit to this award. Active membership in WPS or employment in the field of perfusion is not required to qualify for this award.

James W. Cooksey Award

This award will be given to a Class C member of WPS who has demonstrated a kinship with WPS through membership and/or by the presentations of materials at our annual Spring Meeting. As a condition of this award, the winner must give an oral presentation of their choice at the annual WPS Spring Meeting.

Service Award(s)

Recognition is given for years of actively practicing in the profession of perfusion. An award will be given for the completion of 25 years of such service and every fifth year thereafter. The 25-Year Service Award (awarded to Class A members of WPS only) is a wall-mounted plaque in the shape of the state of Wisconsin. All other service milestones for all membership classes are recognized at the Saturday Awards Luncheon of the annual WPS Spring Meeting.
